Shafaath obtained his B.Proc from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (formerly University of Natal – Durban) in 1995.
He was duly admitted as an Attorney in November 1997.
In 2005 Shafaath obtained his Right of Appearance in the High Court of South Africa.
He is also a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court and an Assessor in the High Court of South Africa.
Shafaath is a member of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers and a member of the Society of Construction Law for Africa.

Shafaath was admitted as an Attorney in November 1997 and commenced private practice under the name M.S. Shaik Attorneys where he specialised in Complex Commercial Litigation, Insurance Law, Labour law, Municipal Law, Transport Law and Bank Recoveries.
Shafaath also served as Director of Commercial Litigation and Labour Law at prestigious law firms’ in Rosebank and Sandton.

Shafaath worked on Commercial litigation, Dispute Resolution, Tax Litigation, Insurance Litigation, Labour and Employment law, Municipal litigation, Insolvency Litigation, Construction Law and Arbitration, Mining Law and Commercial Arbitration matters.
Shafaath has also acted as a Judicial Officer in the Regional Court.
