In 1995 Shafaath commenced serving his articles of clerkship with Abbas, Latib and Company, in Durban. In 1996 Shafaath ceded his articles of clerkship to Bayat, Sader and Partners, in Ladysmith, where he gained experience in criminal law, family law, civil and litigation in the Magistrates and High Courts. Shafaath has appeared in the Magistrate, Regional  and High Court on behalf of his clients.

Shafaath was admitted as an Attorney in November 1997 and commenced private practice under the name M.S. Shaik Attorneys where he specialised in Civil and Commercial Litigation, Criminal Law, Insurance Law, Labour law, Municipal Law, Transport Law and Bank Recoveries.

From March 2012 until May 2015 Shafaath worked as an acting Regional Court Magistrate at the Department of Justice where he adjudicated over Serious and Violent criminal cases. He has been recognised for his impartial and professional Judgments by his colleagues. He attended courses on Civil Adjudication in the Regional Court, Sexual Offences and Human Trafficking, Environmental Law and Organized Crime, Sexual Offences and Child Justice, offered by the South African Judicial Education Institute.

Shafaath also served as a Director of Commercial Litigation and Labour Law at prestigious Law firms’ in Rosebank and Sandton.

Shafaath worked on  Commercial litigation, Dispute Resolution, Tax Litigation, Insurance Litigation, Labour and Employment law, Municipal litigation, Insolvency Litigation, Construction Law and Litigation.
